The joint SIOFA MoP-SC intersessional workshop to define management objectives (WS2023-HSMO) will consist of 2 sessions that will be held from 07:30 to 11:30 UTC on Tuesday 7 and on Wednesday 8 November 2023.

The arrangements for WS-2023-HSMO are:

  1. The workshop is open to all Delegations to the Meeting of Parties (MoP), including representatives of the Scientific Committee (SC) and SIOFA Observers.
  2. The workshop will be co-convened by the Chairs of the MoP and the SC
  3. The workshop will meet online via video conference (Zoom) over two days on Tuesday 7th November 2023 and Wednesday 8thth November 2023 from 07.30 UTC to 11.30 UTC.
  4. The meeting will focus on agenda items related to orange roughy on Tuesday 7th November, and on agenda items related to toothfish on Wednesday 8th November.
  5. The report of the workshop be compiled by the Workshop rapporteur and the Co-conveners, and circulated and adopted via email in time for it to be presented to the 2024 meetings of the MoP and SC

 

The Terms of Reference for WS2023-HSMO are:

  1. The aim of the workshop is to define Management Objectives for the development of Harvest Strategies for selected SIOFA stocks (MoP10 report, paragraph 91).
  2. To do so, WS2023-HSMO needs to develop management objective categories and, within these, preliminary management objectives in the development of harvest strategies.
  3. The workshop will focus on management objectives for orange roughy and toothfish (MoP10 report, paragraph 76). In particular, WS2023-HSMO will have the following specific objectives for orange roughy and toothfish:
    1. Agree on specific management objectives for the development of harvest strategies for orange roughy and toothfish.
    2. Identify any other relevant management objectives, for example bycatch objectives, ecosystem objectives, and fishery impact objectives for harvest strategies for orange roughy and toothfish.
  4. WS2023-HSMO should also identify potential responses to exceptional circumstances, such as dropout or breakout rules, in the implementation of harvest strategies (MoP10 report, paragraph 89), that should be considered by the Scientific Committee.
