Introduction/Rationale:
IOTC and SIOFA have a very large overlapping area of competence, target and bycatch species of interest to both organisations. Most SIOFA CCPs are also IOTC members.
Ongoing discussions for the IOTC and SIOFA to agree on a collaboration framework. There is a strong interest by both parties to finalize a framework to formalize the collaboration.
Objectives:
- Sharing knowledge and information (vessels monitoring, IUU, Surveillance, bycatch)
Achievements:
- SIOFA participate as observer to IOTC meetings.
- Bycatch data, of SIOFA species provided to SIOFA for informing the SC and the MoP
