At its 12th Meeting of Parties in 2025 (MoP12, paragraph 196), SIOFA agreed to hold a third Workshops on the Development of Harvest Strategies. The first workshop (WS2023‐HSMO) was held virtually on 7–8th November 2023, and the second was held on 29th June 2024 (WS2024‐HSS) in hybrid format.
The WS2025-HSS Workshop meets in virtual format on Wednesday 17th December 2025 from 08.00 UTC to 12.00 UTC.
The primary aim of the workshop is for the MoP to consider the progress on the SIOFA Precautionary Approach and Management (PAM) projects.
- Development of the Precautionary Approach Framework (https://siofa.org/science/sc-works/PAM-2024-01);
- Determination of Biological Reference Points (https://siofa.org/science/sc-works/PAM-2024-02); and
- Development of Harvest Strategies (https://siofa.org/science/sc-works/PAM-2024-03)
The workshop will consider the preliminary outcomes from the PAM projects, and
- Provide advice on the SIOFA Precautionary Approach and Management projects, specifically on the approach that was used for the precautionary approach framework, biological reference points, and harvest strategies that should be considered when the final project reports are presented to SC.
- Identify any additional aspects that the SC should consider in the provision of advice on the SIOFA Precautionary Approach and Management projects.
The workshop will also provide advice for the SC and MoP on any aspects of a future work plan for the development of a precautionary approach and the management of SIOFA stocks.
